August 27: Today we look back upon one of the saddest days in over a century of Sony Music history. It was twenty years ago today that a helicopter crash took the life of Stevie Ray Vaughan: he was but thirty-five years old. Luckily we are left with almost a decade's worth of amazing blues-rock records and many great memories: here's a happy image of SRV, hanging out post-show with admirer Mick Jagger.

Re: Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan
Dear Stevie
Miss you so much. The first time I saw you was at The Greek in 1984. I had just become a fan. The last time I saw you live was also at The Greek in June of 1990, just two months before you left us. My life is much richer for you and your music. RIP dear friend.
p.s. Happy birthday 10-3-2010
Re: Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan
I live in England and I never got the chance when I was younger to see him perform - a big regret. However, I play his music most weeks and recognise he had such great soul.
Not far from where I live, is the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. Here lived one of England's most famous playwrights - William Shakespeare. I genuinely put Stevie Ray Vaughan on the same level as what William Shakespeare was to poetry and prose.
People in Dallas must be extremely proud of being associated with such a legend. Though we've been without him for twenty years, his music will live forever.
Re: Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan
I wish I could thank SRV for the joy and solace his music has given me over the years. Every time I listen to Stevie I am moved by the power and the spirit of his music. His life was a gift to us and his death was tragic beyond words because the world was deprived of the music he would have made if he had lived. Thank you Stevie. You are sadly missed.
Re: Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan
i am only 19 but i will never forget the first time i heard the legend that is stevie ray vaughan and that was pride and joy on guitar hero. from that point on i tried to listen to every song possible that he ever recorded. words can not explain how much his music and his words and his guitar playing have affected me. he is the reason i am now learning to play the guitar and i hope one day to possess half of his talent. in my opinion, he is the only musician that when thought of brings tears to my eyes. if it wasnt for him i would have never discovered other great blues guitarists such as albert king, albert collins, robert johnson, etc. i could go on for days. hearing his songs send chills down my spine! what i would give to see him play songs like dirty pool, mary had a little lamb, tin pan alley all live. just like every other artist all he wanted to do was play an awesome show and make good music and he did just that. he has a life long fan in me.
r.i.p. my good sir.
Re: Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan
I discovered SRV the day he passed away.A local radio station came across with the news and started playing his music and what I heard just blew me away.I had never heard anybody play with so much intensity and for the first time the heartache and pain I felt inside had a voice.Stevie's music has helped me get thru a lot hard times in the last twenty years.Thank You Stevie.

Re: Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan
I had the honor to meet and talk with Stevie in Chicago after he and Jeff Beck had brought the house down by playing together. Two giant guitar talents! We talked about his motorcycle riding in New Zealand on the beach like two old neighbors. Twenty years later it still brings a tear to my eye when I think of the day he died. It was like loosing a friend. In the fifteen minutes we talked, he made a fan for life. I'm 62.
